Set in Italy during World War II, Colonel Richard Cantwell, a true war hero, faces the news of his terminal illness with stoic indifference. He decided to spend a weekend in quiet solitude, hunting ducks and visiting old places in Venice. A chance encounter with a young countess begins to awaken in him hope for renewal.

Based on the last complete novel that Ernest Hemingway published during his lifetime, ACROSS THE RIVER & INTO THE TREES captures a fleeting moment of immortality in which time stands still.
The story contains Hemingway’s great themes: love, war, youth and age.
